"Hew wood in wind, sail the seas in a breeze, woo a maid in the dark, for day's eyes are many, work a ship for its gliding, a shield for its shelter, a sword for its striking, a maid for her kiss." Håvamål About Viking ships and replicas Plans: Table of Offsets for the Oseberg Ship |

Welcome to the Viking Ship pageViking ships have captured the imagination of generations of people (and put the fear of God and worse into more than a few if you go far enough back). For centuries the longships were not seen on any ocean, but now they are coming back. Scholars and enthusiasts alike have built replicas and made experimental voyages. Long ocean crossing voyages, too. The Norseman is following in their wake and is involved as the chairperson of a Viking ship project on Canada's west coast! Here is the official page for the British Columbia Viking Ship Project hosted by the Norseman. The community of Viking ship builders has made available an amazing body of information which is accessible to us on the Internet. Here is an introduction to these magnificent ships and a table of links to almost 40 replicas I have identified around the world. I have included a number of links to some general and specific viking ship resources. Most of the Viking ship sites have pictures of their replicas. Some have original content about different aspects of Viking ship construction and sailing, marine arheology, Viking history and so on. You can also find more Viking resources in the links collection. Have fun!
